Fundamentally this course is aimed at any white water paddler, not just the experienced paddlers within the group!

The aim is to equip the participants with the skills and knowledge of how to look after themselves, their team, rescue swimmers and kit.

Feed back on these courses from participants is that they feel much more confident in the water, helping them with their paddling!

The syllabus includes:

• Safe paddling strategies
• Recovery of a swimmer
• Shouting rescue
• Reaching rescue
• Throwline rescues
• Boat based swimmer rescues
• Live bait rescues
• Knots
• Entrapment rescues
• Shallow water wading techniques
• Recovery of equipment
• Scenarios

Candidates must be happy paddling on, and swimming in grade 2 water and over 16 years old.

This is an action packed course with plenty of content.  Some of our candidates give us feedback that they would like more training on aspects such as throwing lines, or specialist canoe skills.  We are happy to offer an extra day or do a refresher at any time for the costs below.

Any other kit you usually bring

We will have a selection of throwlines, Carabiners and tapes available.  We also have Buoyancy aids with chest harnesses.  We have a number of "dry"suits should you not have your own.  These are available to rent at £10 a day.  Please not these aren't 100% waterproof, but work well with a wetsuit underneath

We usually base our selves on a river bank, so bring a packed lunch, snacks, hot drink/flask, warm coat and a bag to carry it all in.
