START AWARD

The British Canoeing Start Award gives new paddlers the best introduction to paddle sport.

Your first time on the water ‘having a go’! A fun and enjoyable practical session, introducing you to paddlesport.

Experience your first session on the water; learning useful skills for an enjoyable paddling experience. It aims to provide you with the basic knowledge to enable you to safely get in and out of your boat, make it move and return to your start point. This is your first step into the world of paddling, ensuring you feel safe, confident and ready to progress to the Discover Award.

There are no prerequisites or age requirements so start your award today!

DISCOVER AWARD

The Discover award is aimed at the developing paddler.  The award will help you learn further your skills set with new techniques, allowing you to be able to control your kayak in a more exposed environment.  You will have the skills to be able to control your boat in the wind or flow of the river. 

We will also teach you about rescue techniques, logistics and planning, knowledge of the environment/conditions you are going out in.

EXPLORE AWARD

The Explore award follows a similar theme to the Discover award, but based in a more challenging environment.  Therefore skills will need to be refined to a higher standard, we will show you how to improve you rescue techniques and introduce you to the decision making processes a paddler can make around the risks of paddlesport.

All these awards are underpinned by learning the Fundamentals of Paddlesport - a great tool for understanding the function of your strokes and techniques.

We run these courses on a "by demand basis"  If you wish to undertake them, please contact us.  We will happily tailor our intro sessions to be based around these awards.

COURSE COSTS

£55 per day plus the British Canoeing certificate fees.
